First report of powdery mildew caused by Podosphaera aphanis (Wallr.) var. aphanis observed on Potentilla fruticosa L. in Piedmont (Northern Italy)

Английский. During Summer 2005, symptoms of a powdery mildew were noted on plants of Potentilla fruticosa L. cultivated in a private garden located in the Biella province (Northern Italy). The casual agent was identified as Podosphaera aphanis (Wallr.) var. aphanis. Symptoms of the disease on leaves, stems and calyces are described; conidial features, cleistothecia and ascospores characteristics are reported. Strategies to prevent and to control the pathogen, observed for the first time in Italy, are given

Durante l'estate del 2005, in un giardino privato localizzato in provincia di Biella, su piantine di Potentilla fruticosa L. comparivano i sintomi di un mal bianco, il cui agente veniva successivamente identificato come Podosphaera aphanis (Wallr.) var. aphanis. In questa nota si descrivono i sintomi osservati in campo, su foglie, fusti e calici dell'ospite, e le caratteristiche dei conidi, dei corpi fruttiferi e delle ascospore del fungo agente della malattia, che ne hanno consentito la classificazione. Infine, vengono fornite alcune indicazioni per contrastare la diffusione di questo mal bianco e per effettuare correttamente la lotta al parassita, segnalato per la prima volta in Italia
