Английский. The apple organic production has got a certain importance in Europe, especially in Italy which is the most important producer. The products allowed for plant protection are listed in Annex IIB of the EEC Regulation no. 2092/91. In addition, they have to be authorized in the single Member State. Organic apple growing has to be considered a difficult crop, because it is infested by a number of pests and diseases. Key pests are represented by apple scab, codling moth and aphids. Apple scab is controlled by copper formulates and lime sulphur. Interesting results are given by the scab stop treatments with lime sulphur. They consist in applications during the leaf wetness period until 300 deg C hours after the begin of rainfall. Applications with the overhead irrigation system avoid the compacting of soil by entering in the orchard during rainfall and make the proposal interesting and feasible also for larger orchards. In hot regions or years, the methods allowed to regulate the codling moth (virus of granulosis and mating disruption) are not always enough to control codling moth in a proper way. Among the aphids, the grey aphid is controlled quite well by neem extracts, whereas there isn't yet a solution against the woolly aphids. At the moment, the growers apply Winter treatments with high amounts of lime sulphur, hoping that this will help in controlling Aphelinus mali. There are some interesting products at research stage, nonetheless their legal introduction in orchards is difficult due to the European registration law, which is, in some case, too rigid and makes the companies spend millions euros

I prodotti che possono essere usati per la difesa fitosanitaria sono elencati nell'Allegato IIB del Regolamento CEE n. 2092/91 e devono essere registrati nel singolo Paese. La coltivazione biologica del melo risulta complessa, in quanto è interessata da differenti avversità di origine animale e fungina. Le avversità chiave sono la ticchiolatura, la carpocapsa e gli afidi. La ticchiolatura viene contenuta con preparati a base di rame o con il polisolfuro di calcio. Si ottengono risultati interessanti con il polisolfuro di calcio. I trattamenti consistono in applicazioni nel periodo di bagnatura delle foglie fino a 300 gradi C-ora dall'inizio della precipitazione. I trattamenti con il sistema di irrigazione a pioggia evitano il compattamento del suolo bagnato e rendono la tecnica applicabile anche in frutteti di notevole estensione. In annate calde a volte i mezzi ammessi per la lotta alla carpocapsa (confusione sessuale e virus della granulosi) non sono sufficienti per portare a buon termine il raccolto. L'afide grigio viene contenuto in maniera soddisfacente dai formulati a base di neem. L'afide lanigero non ha trovato finora una soluzione definitiva e i produttori si affidano ai trattamenti invernali con quantitativi elevati di polisolfuro di calcio e all'impiego dell'imenottero parassitoide Aphelinus mali. Esistono alcuni prodotti interessanti in fase di sperimentazione, tuttavia la loro introduzione legale è difficoltosa a causa della normativa comunitaria relativa alla registrazione, che, in qualche caso, è troppo rigida e impone alle società produttrici una spesa molto elevata
