[Biosecurity in poultry farms. 1: Implementation of export opinion methods in evaluation of management, health and structural situation of turkey husbandry farms in high stocking density areas of Veneto (Italy) region]

Biosecurity measures at farm level, together with prevention and eradication measures, are important part of an integrated intervention strategy for the control of the highly diffusive animal infectious diseases. The risk factors for avian influenza introduction and spread together with the knowledge on farming practices and structural features of the farms were identified and evaluated as indicators of the level of biosecurity. Data on the structure of the farm, the protection of the openings, the control of the access, the tools used for cleaning and disinfection, the sewage collection system and the bird carcasses storage were collected by a standardized questionnaire submitted to farmers by the veterinarians of the Local Health Unit. The availability of written procedures for management of biosecurity measures was also considered. Data collected were analysed in order to identify farms in poor condition as to biosecurity measures application

Una valida strategia di intervento sanitario di prevenzione ed eradicazione delle malattie infettive non può prescindere dall'applicazione di norme di biosicurezza. In base a esperienze collegate a buone pratiche di allevamento e valutazione di fattori di rischio nell'ambito delle epidemie di influenza aviaria, sono stati identificati parametri strutturali da sottoporre a verifica. Vengono definiti come essenziali i requisiti strutturali relativi agli accessi, alle attrezzature per le operazioni di pulizia, alle concimaie per lo stoccaggio dei reflui e alle celle per lo stoccaggio dei morti. Per ultimo è stata valutata la presenza di procedure formalizzate. Per la raccolta delle informazioni è stato utilizzato un verbale di sopralluogo somministrato in forma di questionario strutturato agli allevatori
