Old rose cultivars for flower production and breeding [Tuscany]

Английский. The genus Rosa includes about 200 species and several thousand of cultivars. Among them, garden roses are an economically important crop. Furthermore, Old Garden Roses (OGRs) are important due to their historical and botanical value. They represent a very important genetic and biodiversity source. One of the most important collections of rose genetic resources in the world is the Botanical Rose Garden Carla Fineschi. This paper reports the evaluation, the characterization and the exploitation of these genetic resources to increase them in value and to encourage their use. The census of botanical species and OGRs and their morpho-botanical characterization using specific identification cards appeared the first step to identify the most interesting aesthetic characters. A detailed data base describing 435 OGR accessions and referring their characters was obtained. Consulting this data base it is possible to find out the most interesting aesthetic characters and the peculiarity of these 435 OGRs. This unique genetic patrimony can be used in the breeding work to obtain new attractive cultivars. This work can be useful to identify species and cultivars with peculiar characters and to use them to amplify and diversify the nursery and flower production, with new interesting plants according to consumer preferences

Inoltre, le antiche Rose da Giardino (Old Garden Roses, OGR) sono importanti per il loro valore storico e botanico. Esse rappresentano una fonte importante dal punto di vista genetico e della biodiversità. Una delle più importanti collezioni di risorse genetiche sulle rose al mondo è costituita dal Roseto Botanico Carla Fineschi. Questo contributo riporta la valutazione, la caratterizzazione e la valorizzazione di queste risorse genetiche per aumentarne il valore e incentivarne l'uso. Il censimento delle specie botaniche e delle OGR e la loro caratterizzazione morfo-botanica utilizzando schede identificative specifiche è stato il primo passo per specificare i caratteri estetici più interessanti. E' stato ottenuta una base di dati dettagliata che descrive 435 accessioni di OGR e riporta i loro caratteri. Mediante la consultazione di questa base di dati è possibile recuperare i caratteri estetici più interessanti e le peculiarità di queste 435 OGR. Questo patrimonio genetico, unico nel suo genere, può essere utilizzato nel lavoro di miglioramento per ottenere nuove cultivar interessanti. Il lavoro può essere utile per identificare specie e cultivar con caratteri peculiari e per utilizzarle allo scopo di ampliare la produzione vivaistica e floricola, con nuove piante interessanti che rispondano alle preferenze dei consumatori.]
