Selection and agronomical assessment of oregano crop for agro-food industries [Origanum vulgare L.; Apulia]

[The market's interest in aromatic plants is growing dramatically, in particular for oregano, one of the most popular culinary species, which is traditionally used for many food preparations. A previous work carried out on 20 oregano genotypes allowed to select 7 of them, on which the agronomic management of oregano crop for food industry was evaluated. Plants were harvested, starting from the second year from transplanting, two times per growing season. The total herbage yield during the second year was higher than 25,0 t haE-1 and amounted to about 29,0 t haE-1 in the third year. Among tested genotypes, it was possible to identify the most suitable ones for the utilization in food industry. The results are quite promising in order to develop the cultivation of oregano for food industry, even if in a contest of a niche crop.]

Una selezione di 7 genotipi di origano ha consentito di individuare itinerari colturali idonei ad ottenere una materia prima da destinare all'industria agroalimentare. L'entrata in produzione, al secondo anno d'impianto, ha consentito di realizzare una produzione in cimette fresche, somma di due raccolte, superiore alle 25,0 t haE-1 e di circa 29,0 t haE-1 al terzo. Tra i genotipi a confronto è stato possibile individuare i più idonei, per caratteristiche agronomiche e tecnologiche, a un utilizzo industriale. I risultati incoraggianti, seppure in contesti tipici di un settore di nicchia, permettono di individuare nella coltura dell'origano per usi industriali una discreta opportunità di diversificazione colturale
