Английский. The treatment of mastitis is targeted as a response to a reasoned agricultural demand and to general interests of the dairy industry. It must also be effective for farmer in terms of herd health and economy. To be operational, this method can only be partial and probabilistic, due to the limited means of diagnosis and treatment. The epidemiological situation and the main types of occurring infections are characterised from the available data. The epidemiological model of the herd, and whether contagious or environmental pathogens are present, determines the use of antibiotic sensibility tests, the timing of treatment of subclinical mastitis during lactation, the strategy to apply at drying-off and the pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic characteristics of the selected treatment. The active ingredients chosen for treatment and the route of administration depend on the main infections in the herd, the length of infection and the number of quarters infected in cows to be treated

Il trattamento mirato delle mastiti risponde alle domande di una zootecnia ragionata e agli interessi generali della filiera lattiera; deve poi anche risultare efficace per l'allevatore in termini economici e di sanità dell'allevamento. Per essere efficace, l'iter da mettere in atto può solo essere parziale e probabilistico, tenuto conto dei limiti degli strumenti diagnostici e terapeutici. Si tratta di caratterizzare la situazione epidemiologica e i grandi tipi di infezioni presentati a partire dai dati accessibili in allevamento. Il modello epidemiologico dell'allevamento, contagioso o ambientale, determina l'interesse di realizzare test di sensibilità agli antibiotici, l'opportunità di trattare le mastiti subcliniche in lattazione, la strategia da applicare in asciutta e i caratteri farmacodinamici e farmacocinetici da privilegiare nella scelta dei trattamenti.
