Presence of Diabrotica virgifera virgifera in Italy and tools for an integrated management [Zea mays L.]

Английский. Italy, first in EU, started a monitoring program of Diabrotica virgifera. In order to harmonize the monitoring procedures and to make comparable over time and space the records of the species presence, since the beginning it was established a Ministerial working group which has laid down precise guidelines on how to do the survey. To make the coordination activity more effective, trap comparison trials were also performed. It has been assessed that, besides standard PAL sex pheromone traps, being used since 1996, monitoring can be based on lures of Diabrotica Track traps, provided the quality of the traps supplied by the companies has been checked each year at beginning of the season. New KLP traps can replace the sticky traps keeping comparable data obtained in previous years. In fact, this trap performed as well as PAL traps with the advantage of keeping constant over time the capture potential without continuously replacing trap sheets. Monitoring instructions of the common National protocol varied with trap location and depended on whether or not the species had already been detected in the various zones. In zones free of infestation in previous years, the sex pheromone traps were placed out in the monoculture fields with the highest risk of introduction, while in zones in which the infestation had been already observed the permanent monitoring (traps placed at fixed points) was implemented, to assess the temporal variations of population levels and then the effectiveness of the containment strategies

Per armonizzare le procedure e rendere comparabili nel tempo e nello spazio i dati sulla presenza della specie, dall'inizio è stato istituito un gruppo di lavoro ministeriale che ha individuato precise linee guida su come condurre il monitoraggio. Per rendere più efficace il coordinamento sono stati condotti esperimenti di campo per confrontare le trappole disponibili. Si è accertato che il monitoraggio, oltre che sulle trappole PAL usate dal 1996, può basarsi sulle esche delle trappole Diabrotica Track, purché la qualità delle trappole fornite dai produttori sia valutata all'inizio di ogni stagione. Le nuove trappole KLP possono sostituire le trappole invischiate mantenendo comparabili i dati ottenuti negli anni. Infatti, questa trappola, ha fornito prestazioni paragonabili a PAL senza richiedere continue sostituzioni del foglio invischiato. Le istruzioni del protocollo comune variavano a seconda se nella zona era già stata individuata o meno la specie. Nelle zone ancora non infestate le trappole a feromoni sessuali sono state installate in appezzamenti in monosuccessione di mais a elevato rischio di introduzione, mentre dove la specie era già stata individuata si è effettuato il monitoraggio permanente (trappole installate in punti fissi), al fine di stabilire le variazioni nel tempo delle popolazioni e, quindi, l'efficacia delle strategie di contenimento applicate
