Welfare of goats and the production of products in organic and conventional farms

Английский. The research purpose was to find out the difference between levels of goat welfare and management in organic and conventional farms, and their impact on milk amount and quality. More than 30% organic goat farms realize goat products as organic products. The milk yield obtained of from organic farms is by 17% lower compare to conventional farms, yet milk fats, lactose's and the protein content of organic milk is substantially higher. In milk of the organic goats we find more somatic cells than in the conventional milk. As in the organic farms the use of veterinary medicaments is not permitted in prophylaxis, in these farms there are problems both with animal digestion system parasites and with skin parasites. In the organic farms mainly during the winter an optimum animal density is not provided on 1 square m. This have a negative impact on animal welfare (stresses), also on health (microclimate). In conventional farms, what is not engaged in the crop growing, often the beddings failing looks after only, and in a winter period there are moist animal stands, what can take to the problems of legs and nails. In organic farms animal feeding factors are unacceptable - goats are not provided with free and easily reached water and trace elements erist, which can cause health problem and diminish productivity. In a summer period in both biological and in conventional farms animal management and feeding can be evaluated as acceptable. There is no difference between the growing systems of organic and conventional animals and in the measurements of the human mutual correlations. Animal welfare in the inspected farms was acceptable.

Латышский. Pētījums par kazu labturību un produkcijas ražošanu tika veikts Ziemeļvalstu Ministru Padomes finansēta starptautiska projekta Mērvienību izstrāde dzīvnieku labturības izvērtēšanai bioloģiskajā lauksaimniecībā ietvaros. Pētījuma mērķis bija izstrādāt un ieviest bioloģisko saimniecību inspektoru un konsultantu praksē vienotu dzīvnieku labturības izvērtēšanas sistēmu visās ziemeļvalstīs – Somijā, Zviedrijā, Norvēģijā, Dānijā, Islandē, Latvijā, Lietuvā un Igaunijā. Pētījuma laikā Latvijā tika salīdzināta kazkopības produkcijas kvantitāte un kvalitatīvie rādītāji konvencionālajās un bioloģiskajās saimniecībās, tika veikta barības bāzes analīze un kazu barības devu optimizēšana, tika veikta dzīvnieku labturības izvērtēšana un salīdzināšana konvencionālajās un bioloģiskajās saimniecībās dažādos Latvijas rajonos. Projekta izpildes laikā kazkopības speciālisti kopā ar praktiķiem izstrādāja un pārbaudīja dzīvnieku labturības izvērtēšanas programmu, kā arī novērtēja dzīvnieku labturību konvencionālajās un bioloģiskajās saimniecībās.
