Enzymatic virulent attributes of Vibrio metchnikovii isolated from native catfish (Clarias macrocephalus Gunther)

The outward susceptibility of Thailand native catfish (Clarias macrocephalus) to skin lesions was found to be accompanied by bacterial infection. Routine laboratory protocols revealed the involvement of Vibrio metchnikovii. The isolate was tested for its ability to produce enzymes in vitro. Six different kinds of media were formulated for each enzyme tested. Results showed the production of the enzymes alkaline phosphatase, DNAse, lecithinase, lipase, elastase and collagenase. Bacteria with profound ability to produce the enzymes indicated were used as positive control and served as the basis in evaluating the enzymatic producing ability of the isolate. This preliminary study described the enzymatic virulent profile of V. metchnikovii in susceptible fishes.
