Content analysis of broadcast releases as perceived by radio farmcasters

Radio has been proven as one powerful and effective communication medium especially in remote areas. Farmers in the barrios are always hooked up to their favorite radio stations whether at work or during their idle times. It is also the cheapest way of gaining access to information as one just needs a radio to be updated with the current issues and trends whether in agriculture, politics, health, environment and others. PhilRice has established collaboration among 52 local and national radio stations from all over the country to speed up rice technology promotion. To improve its effectiveness, this study surveyed the farmcasters and gathered feedback from farmer listeners to analyze the content of broadcast releases in terms of clarity and comprehensiveness. Feedback from farmcasters/broadcasters shows that 100 perce4nt of them consider the topics in the broadcast releases useful and important to the listeners. In terms of clarity and readability, 91 percent of the broadcasters find the material clear and understandable. Some prefer it to be written in English as they have difficulty translating Tagalog, which is the medium of language used in the broadcast releases, into their dialect. It is recommended that broadcasters should also submit a report of airing and listeners' feedback on broadcast releases aired. These should be translated to popular dialects in collaboration with broadcasters to gain more listenership especially in regions where Tagalog is not a popular language. Feedback from farmer listener should also be solicited as they are the beneficiaries of these broadcast releases.
