The experiment was conducted in the department of plant breeding and genetics involving flour genotypes and their six hybrids developed by half diallel crossing fashion, with the objective to know gene action of plant height, number of sympodia, bolls and seed cotton yield per plant. Analysis of variance showed differences among genotypes regarding the traits under study. Mean squares for GCA and SCA variances expressed that plant height and seed cotton yield were controlled by additive as well as non-additive genes, sympodia number by additive genes and boll number by only non-additive genes. B-557 was identified as potential parent to be used in breeding programme. Hybrids in which B-557 was one of the progenitors generally displayed high and positive SCA effects. Hence, selection for developing promising hybrids, B-557 will be potential parent in the crosses.
