Seven varieties of pearl millet and a check were evaluated for forage yield at Fodder Research Sub-Station, AARI, Faisalabad during kharif 2002. Significant differences were observed for plant height, number of leaves per tiller and green fodder yield while differences for number of tillers per meter row and leaf area were non-significant. The variety Composite-2000 ranked first in green fodder yield (86.11 t/ha) followed by Tift-85 D (83.95 t/ha), NARC-1 (77.78 t/ha) and ExbD2 Bulk (75.31 t/ha). The check variety MB-87 produced the lowest green fodder yield (56.79 t/ha). Plant height ranged from 155.22 cm (check variety MB- 87) to 240 cm (NARC-1) while number of tillers per meter row varied from 26.11 (NARC-5) to 31 (Composite-2000). Check variety MB-87 produced 30 tillers per meter row. Number of leaves per tiller ranged from 10.33 (check variety MB-87) to 12.45 (Composite-2000). Leaf area varied form 200.65 (check MB-87) to 304.89 cm2 (NARC -1).
