The study is a research and methodological work. Based on the analysis of design studies and the author's own research on the evaluation of crop rotation a proposal to choose criteria and indicators for their comprehensive assessment was developed. The exemplification assessment covered 6 four-year cropping sequences with different proportions of root and cereal crops. Rotations involving 75 percent of cereals and continuous cropping of different cereal species were found to be the least labour-consuming, whereas from the environmental standpoint the rotation involving 75 percent of cereals and 25 percent of peas and the Norfolk rotation were the most beneficial, but the choice of the assessment criteria and of the rotation that suits the current situation each time is to be decided upon by the owner or the user of a farm
