Variability of groundwater table depth in two meadow sites - as a basic to evaluate their moisture - on peat-moorsh soil of BC (periodically drying) and CD (periodically dry) complexes is presented in the paper. The precipitation sum and subirrigation in the extremely dry and moderately wet year are the background of these changes. In the peat-moorsh soil of BC complex the groundwater table depth was between minimum and maximum admissible depth in the whole moderately wet growing season of 1998 but only in the period of intensive irrigation in the extremely dry 1992 year. In the soil of the CD complex the groundwater table was below maximum admissible depth in both extremely dry and moderately wet year. Irrigation was insufficient in the CD complex soil in both analysed years
