The aim of the undertaken studies was to determine the effect of the number of tractor passings on the direction of changes of selected soil physical properties as well as potato yielding. The field experiment was set on the good rye soil in 1997-2000. The four factors were analysed: the number of crossing (1-8), the cultivars (Irga, Ekra), row-spacing (62, 82, 102 cm), nitrogen fertilization (60, 90 kg/ha). The research showed significant changes of the examined physical properties, following from varied numbers of tractor passings. An increase of the passings resulted in the increase in dry soil compaction, density and moisture. The changes occurred both in the surface soil layer and the deeper layers
