Firmness and soluble solid of strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa Duch.) fruit grown in the greenhouse and in the field

Experiments were carried out in the 2003-2004 in the unheated greenhouse and in the field. Fruit of three strawberry cultivars: Elsanta, Hineoye, Elkat were compared. Fruit mean weight, firmness, and soluble solid of a fruit were evaluated. The higher mean fruit weight had plants grown in the greenhouse. There were significant differences in firmness between fruit obtained from plants grown in the greenhouse and in the field. The highest soluble solid was found in fruit of cv. Elsanta grown in the field. In the greenhouse the highest soluble solid content had fruit of cv. Elkat. There were significant differences in mean fruit weight, firmness and soluble solid among compared cultivars. The biggest fruit gave Elsanta. Fruit of this cultivar had also the highest firmness and soluble content
