In the study, the occurrence of algae in soils of different textures (from loam to sand) was investigated. Algae biomass developing on soil surface and in ploughing layer up to 30 cm depth was estimated under winter sowings in the autumn 2006. Soil surface samples (0-2 mm, and 0-30 cm) were taken from two fields under winter wheat. Analysis of variance showed significant influence of differentiated soil texture, soil pH, available Mg and K concentration on the algal community development on the soil surface. More algae was found in winter wheat field with direct sowings in light loam and light loamy sand. Soils with lighter textures under ploughing tillage were occupied by algae in lower quantities than in more heavy textures
