Rice genetic resources of Mayurbhanj District, Orissa

Mayurbhanj District was surveyed to collect rice genetic resources as part of conserving the genetic diversity of rice in the State of Orissa. Reflecting the tribal-dominated nature of the area, 176 accessions were collected, mostly comprising landraces and traditional varieties. They have been documented, characterized for morpho-agronomic characters, and grouped into different rice ecosystems based on their ecology and duration. The collected germplasm are conserved in long-term storage in sub-zero temperature at NBPGR, New Delhi, for future use
