Genetic parameters for best racing time (BRT) and log of earning (log E) were estimated for 3-year-old trotters horse which raced in Serbia during the period from 1992 to 1999. A data set of track record of 609 trotters, the progeny of 61 sires, was analyzed to estimted heritability, genetic and phenotypic correlations for BRT and log E. Heritability estimated for BRT varied from 0.405 to 0.489, and for log E 0.016-0.149. Estimates of heritability for BRT which were moderate to high, suggest that genetic progress for racing performances for trotter in Serbia could improve with adequate selection programmes. Genetic and phenotypic correlation between BRT and Log E in complete model was -0.912 (+/- 0.057) and -0.761, respectively. The strong genetic correlation observed between best racing time and log of earnings suggested that the use of age trait in early carrier of trotter horses is very important for selection of horses and for future breeding plan in Serbian trotting association. Prediction of sire breeding values based on result of progenies, adjusted for appropriate fixed effect would be increase the accuracy of evaluation and ranking of sires in progeny test.
