This paper represents the basic agronomic and biological traits of new alfalfa cultivar, K-42, created at the Institute for Forage Crops in Krusevac, Serbia. During two years period, production, morphological and other biological traits of cultivar K-42 were investigated in network of Committee for Cultivar Recognition according to standard methodology. Investigations were organized in five sites and standard cultivar was NS Mediana. In sowing year cultivar K-42 showed higher green matter and dry matter yield than standard cultivar in almost all sites. The higher green and dry matter yield, cultivar K-42 was achieved in the second year of investigation, than standard cultivar. Average yield for all years and sites was higher in cultivar K-42. New cultivar K-42 showed better results for crude protein content and in the second year of investigation achieved for 0.46 t/ha higher crude protein yields compare to standard. According to these results new cultivar K-42 was registered as new alfalfa cultivar.
