The objective of this study was to determine by an analytical method the amount of seed protectants that is washed off from a seed surface during germination and leached into the soil. The moisture causing the protectants to wash off may be resident moisture, which is limited in volume and is stable, or extra moisture coming from heavy rainfall or showers, which is dynamic and which percolates quickly into deep soil layers carrying along the washed off protectants. The seeds that lost their protective coating are prone to pathogen attacks and primary infection. This paper describes the analytical method used to assess the amount of leached protectants and discusses the obtained experimental data.
