During 2004-2005, studies were conducted at the Experimental Farm Radmilovac, a collective strawberry plantation of the Faculty of Agriculture, Belgrade - Zemun (Serbia). The experiment included seven strawberry cultivars, six introduced cvs (Evita, Madeleine, Eris, Selena, Cortina and Favette) and a standard domestic cultivar Cacanska Rana. All cultivars were grown on banks covered with black polyethylene foil, in the form of two-row bands. Cropping (per plant and ha) as well as major parameters of fruit quality (fruit mass, fruit dimension, fruit shape index, soluble solids content, sugar content, total acids content, ascorbic acid content and pH value of fruit) were studied. The ripening period of all the studied cultivars was an early one, and it ranged from 21th to 28th May. The highest yield (33.0-37.7 t/ha) and the best fruit quality (the largest fruit and high content of all chemical compounds) were recorded in cvs Cortina, Madeleine and Eris. These cultivars can be recommended for commercial growing in the region of Smederevsko Podunavlje.
