Restructuring processes in the economic background of the Slovak Republic rural regions

Rural regions are most significantly affected by the transformation processes of society. This is reflected in their sustaining economic and social problems. However, even within the rural regions, some cases can be found where they use their comparative advantages. In these regions, the tendency to restructure the economic background in favor of the tertiary sector is visible. But there are also lagging rural regions, where the process of the economic background improvement is not visible. Such rural regions are not able to start the process of economic and social development without external support. If we do not want them to become starvation valleys, within the developed Europe, they need significant and regionally differentiated support, using the tools of knowledge-oriented economy.
