The aim of this study was to determine the effect of the polyenzyme product Hostazym C100 on some parameters characterizing the processes of fermentation in the rumen of buffalo calves fed with diets with different proportions of concentrate mixture and roughage. The experiment was carried out in four periods (two controls and two experimental ones), with five 8-month buffalo calves of the Bulgarian Murra breed with live weights of 165 kg at the beginning of the study. The animals were reared in closed barns with permanent access to drinking water. The consumed feed during the first and the second period was composed of 2 kg concentrate mixture and 4 kg alfalfa hay. During the third and the fourth period the experimental animals were given 2.1 kg concentrate mixture and 7 kg alfalfa hay daily. In the experimental periods the enzyme product Hostazym C100 was added to the concentrate at a dose of 1 g/kg mixture. Hostazym C100 has endo-1,4 beta glucanase basic activity and cellulase, alpha amylase, protease and hemicellulase secondary enzymatic activities. It was found that the inclusion of Hostazym C100 in both diets increased the pH value before feeding and 2.5 hours after feeding, reduced the molar percentage of acetic acid and favoured the production of butyric, isovaleric and valeric acid.
