[Research of the filtering characteristic of nonwoven needle-punched fabric]

Laboratory investigation of the filtration characteristics of various samples of needle-punched fabric manufactured from the artificial fur waste materials in the conditions of the Republic of Belarus was realized for the determination of possibilities of its application in the capacity of filtering material of underdrainage for drainage protection against silting. Filtration coefficients, mudding degree and physical-mechanical characteristics (breaking load and stretching in case of break) of needle-punched fabric were determined. Filtration coefficients (water traverse speed through the fabric in the conditions of head gradient equal to one and linear law of filtration) showed that fabric was appropriate for prevention of penetration of soil particles with diameter more than 0,1 mm and admission of less particles into the scruppers. Dependence of filtration coefficient of each fabric sample on the acting load in the conditions of pure water application and after samples filling with soil was determined. Average filtration characteristics of non-seal and seal needle-punched fabric as well as the mudding degree were determined. Research results showed that the filtration and physical-mechanical characteristics of the analysed filtering material could be used for the protection of drainage constructions against silting in the conditions of cohesionless soil (fine-grained sand) and iron content in underground water less than 2 mg/l
