Results of the research of the determination of the optimal drilling depth of cowpea (Vigna sinensis) seeds depending on soil level profile and seeding rate realized for the soil and climatic conditions of the Republic of Belarus were presented. In the conditions of seeding rate of 142,9 pcs/ha the highest obtained yields of cowpea were 13,8 t/ha. Lowering of seeding rate up to 95,2-57,1 pcs/ha caused the lowering of yielding capacity on 1,8-4,1 t/ha (13-20%). Cowpea flat planting and sowing into narrow seedbeds with 12 cm height into 3-5 cm depth and sowing into seedbeds with 15 cm length into 4-5 cm depth provided the highest germination capacity (84,7-89,3%). Seed sowing into 3-4 cm and 2 cm depth lowered the cowpea yields on 2-6% and on 9-14%, respectively. In the conditions of cowpea flat planting the yields lowered on 5-16%. Research results showed that the highest yielding capacity of cowpea (18,0-18,2 t/ha) was obtained in the conditions of its cultivation on narrow seedbeds with 12-15 cm height and with depth of seed placement of 5 cm
