The short survey of the most important theoretical and practical results of the theriological researches carried out in the Republic Belarus in the XX – the beginning of the XXI centuries was presented. Achievements obtained in course studies of the commercially and biologically valuable species, groups and ecological communities of European bison, European wild hog, beaver, wolf, lynx and others were analysed. Before the XX century all realized researches in the field of theriofauna had the naturalistic and descriptive character. In the beginning of the XX century the majority of studies were dedicated to the inventory and valuation surveys of the species composition of theriofauna, determination of allocation and evaluation of population number of game animals and birds. In the in subsequent years (1960-1970) there were realized ecological and biological investigations of the special classes and species of animals, in the majority of cases – mouselike rodents, cheiropterous animals, European beaver, bank vole, spotted souslik, etc. Since the second part of 1970s there was the transmission to the leading edge level of population studies, first of all, economically valuable species and systematic groups of mammals (hoofed mammals, large carnivores, mustelids, beavers). The level of the realized studies often was ahead of the analogous foreign studies
