The Czech hybrid hop cultivar Agnus was used to determine the effect of the term of pruning (end of March, first decade of April, second decade of April), pruning depth (deep and shallow) and the number of trained bines (4, 5 or 6) on the yield of hop cones and the concentration of bitter-acids in the cones. The depth and term of pruning significantly influenced both hop yields and alpha-bitter acids concentrations in the cones. Every year, we found a positive influence of shallow pruning on the yield (increase by 0.37 t/ha in 2003, by 0.28 t/ha in 2004 and by 0.02 t/ha in 2005). There was a significant influence of three-bines training system on one hop pole, i.e. 3 + 3 bines from each plant. Alpha-bitter acids conc. corresponded with the yield and a positive effect of shallow pruning was observed. The term of pruning influenced the yield and formation of alpha-bitter acids (155 kg/ha at the first pruning term, 169 kg/ha at the second pruning term and 175 kg/ha at the third pruning term).
