Effect of different ewe feeding levels during lactation on lamb growth and survival of horro sheep

Lactation response to different levels of feed supplementation and the effect of milk production on lamb growth and survival were studied in 1998 over a 12 week lactation period. Four different levels of concentrate (0, 300, 500, and 700 g/head /day) were considered. Estimated 12-week lactation yield was 18.4 liter. Treatment had significant (p0.05) effect on total milk production, lamb weight gain to 8 (p0.05) and 12 weeks (p0.01) of age. Milk yield was significantly (p0.01) related to average daily weight gain to different growth stages except to 6 weeks (p0.05). The correlation coefficients between milk production at different growth stages and lamb weight gain were positive and highly significant (p0.01). Treatment had significant (p0.01) effect on lamb survival to 8 and 12 week of age.
