In an eight parent diallel cross of Brassica juncea, the nature of inheritance of different quantitative characters were studied. Biological yield, harvest index and seed yield were suggested as complex characters. Varieties RW-351, NDR-8501, T-6342 and Kranti were recommended as parents in future hybridization programme for better seed yield. The crosses RW-351 x Kranti, T - 6342 x Kranti and Kranti x NDR - 8501 were expected to yield rate transgressive segregates, which could be useful in breeding for better seed yield. The corss T- 6342 x Kranti was suggested for improvement of resistance to aphid, tolerance to salinity, wider adaptability and high seed yield. Population improvement through diallel selective mating or mass selection with concurrent random mating wa s recommended for improvement of majority of the characters studied.
