Genetic variability studies for morphological qualitative and quantitative parameters in sweetcorn

The characters 10-grains weight, number of seeds /row, grain yield /plot, sugar content were the most important parameters to be considered in parents for effective selection before initiating actual crossing programme, since these attributes exhibited high variability, heritability combined with high genetic advance as per cent of mean. Eight best sweetcorn lines with desirable characters were identified and will be utilized in future breeding programmes to develop sweetcorn variety and hybrid.
