Effects of Azotobacter Biofertilizer on Growth and Nutrition of Young Apple Tree in a Calcareous Soil

In this research the inoculation of indigenous Azotobacter was evaluated on growth and nutrient uptake by young apple trees (Golden delicious on M9 rootstock) in a two years pot trial with a calcareous soil. The test was designated as factorial experiment on base of Randomized Complete Block Design with 20 treatments in four replications. The treatments included four strains of Azotobacter chroococcum, two levels of ammonium nitrate (0 and 35 mg.kg-1 N) and two levels of vermicompost (0 and 12 g.kg-1). The results showed that inoculation had significant effects on K, Mg, Fe, Mn, and Zn uptake by leaves and N, K, Mn and Zn uptake by roots as well. Inoculation also increased the leave area index. The interactions between Azotobacter, compost and chemical nitrogen were significant about of Ca, Mg, Fe, Mn, Zn and B uptake by leaves and P, K, Ca, Mg, Mn and Cu uptake by roots. The best treatment was B1N1C1. Finally the strain B1 (AFA146) of Azotobacter was selected for complimentary experiments.
