Black rot of grape [Vitis vinifera] caused by Guignardia bidwellii

A new disease of grape was observed in Okayama Prefecture in 1985. The fungus constantly isolated from symptomatic berries of grape was identified as Guignardia bidwellii (anamorph : Phyllosticta ampelicida) on the basis of morphological characteristics and pathogenicity. This is the first report of teleomorph of black rot fungus on grape in Japan.
