In this study, we analyzed the results of a survey on the consciousness of all family members in all farm households that had concluded a family management agreement in Yamaguchi Prefecture in 2005. The study has the following three purposes: (1) to analyze the circumstances related to improving the status of woman farmers with regard to the Basic plan for gender equality (the 2nd, 2005), (2) to understand the present status of the consciousness of developing gender equality among the couples in the generation responsible for managing farm households, and (3) to clarify the differences in opinions about forming a gender-equal society between different generations. Results: (1) The subjects of this survey have not changed their lifestyle or consciousness about work division between genders in housework, nursing, caretaking, etc. (2) Neither men nor women are willing to participate in society independently. (3) Similar ratios can be observed between the consciousness of the husband and wife in the generation in charge of management, so communication between the husband and wife has advanced considerably. (4) Differences in understanding of gender equality can be observed between generations.
