Genetic Diversity Analysis of Five Chicken Breeds of India

Twenty-five polymorphic and ubiquitously distributed microsatellite loci were utilized to genotype five breeds of indigenous poultry in India. White Leghorn fowl was used as an outgroup, and the data was used to establish the population parameters and genetic relationships among the breeds. All of the selected loci exhibited high polymorphic information content (0.809 ± 0.004) and gene diversity (0.756 ± 0.004). The F statistics suggest the presence of population structure in the five indigenous chicken breeds. AMOVA revealed 4.7% variation among the five indigenous poultry populations.
