Forage grasses growing at the wild and cultivated in fields represent many species with various properties. At the agency of LUA Research Institute of Agriculture over the many years is performed purposeful breeding work with aim to originate new highly productive cultivars of different grassland species with good forage quality suitable for growing under Latvian climate condition as well as competitive in the EU countries. Experiments were established in May of 2007 at the Research Institute of Agriculture with purpose to evaluate our new cultivars in the poly-component mixtures with diploid and tetraploid varieties of forage grasses and legumes, and to designate advantages and faults of them. There were compared 7 multiform grassland mixtures for cutting and pastures: SK-1; SK-2; SK-3; SK-4; SK-5; SK-6 and SK-7. The trial results proved that it is possible to obtain two full cuttings from these mixtures in the sowing year at good climatic condition. Most productive mixtures (SK-1; SK-2; SK-3) gave 7.01 haE-1 DM and more. The conditions of winterhardiness were favorable, all swards wintered good and at the early spring after resurgence of vegetation were assessed with 8-9 points. In the 1st year of use for all swards were visually estimated covering of legumes (%) - highest results showed mixtures with red clover varieties 'Skriveru agrais' (SK-1) and 'Stendes vēlais IF (SK-5) - 80%. In the 1stt year of use were obtained 3 cuts from all swards within total DM yield 12.05- 15.06 t haE-1. All mixtures exceeded standard by growth in DM yield 0.44-2.91 t haE-1, mixture SK-1 substantially overcame standard (+3.01 t haE-1). The mixture for pasture SK-6 gave high DM yield (12.49 t haE-11), too. The crude protein was high (15.8- 18.9%) for all swards, digestibility ranged from 59 to70%, it depends from mixture botanical composition.
