The effect of adaptation of some Phaseolus plants to the repeated action of drought
2005
Brinza, L.
A pot experiment has been carried out with the aim to elucidate intraspecific peculiarities of the induction of drought tolerance in Phaseolus acutifolius, Phaseolus lunatus, and Phaseolus vulgaris. The experiment was conducted according to the following scheme: 1st variant - control, constant humidity 70% of the total SWC; 2nd variant - plants subjected to one drought cycle; 3rd variant - plants stressed twice: in the stage of the first true leaf and during flowering. Parameters studied: total water content, saturation deficit and moisture retention capacity of tissues, transpiration intensity and plant sensitivity to drought. It was established, that as the result of adaptive modifications, the resistance to the repetead action of the stress factor increased. A moderate drought in early ontogenetic stages determined the formation of a new plant phenotype with morphofunctional properties facilitating the tolerability to the repeated stress. The adaptation effect was manifested by the decrease of plant sensitivity and by the amplitude of the modifications of the parameters of water regime at the repeated action of drought.
