[Ascorbate oxidase activity in soils polluted by copper]

Emnova, E. | Grigorcea, P. | Slanina, V.
Samples from soils with natural copper content as well as from soils polluted experimentally and anthropogenically by copper have been used for the study of ascorbate oxidase activity. The results of the investigations revealed a negative influence of copper on this enzyme activity, if copper concentration is more than the average background level (35 mg/kg) of this metal in the soils of Moldova. The inhibition of the ascorbate oxidase activity occurs at copper concentrations lower than the maximum admissible one (55 mg/kg). Soil ascorbate oxidase activity is an acutely sensitive indicator of soil copper content and can serve for biodiagnosis of soil ecosystem state.
