Possibilities of using genetic markers in breeding work

The influence of kappa-casein locus on processing quality of cow, ewe and goat milk has been investigated. It was found that kappa-casein locus exerted effects on technological properties(coagulation ability, fermentation ability, fermentation-coagulation ability) of the milk-raw material for cheese production. Among all the variants, phenotyped at this locus, the homozigous variant BB has priority in all analysed positions, the heterozigous ones possessing intermediary effect. The kappa-casein locus is proposed as genetic marker for breeding purposes. Preference should be given to the allele k-Cnb.
