A total of seven established lines (LF1 to LF7)are being maintained at the UPLB Silkworm Breeding and Egg Production Center located in a 2-hectare area at the UPLB Central Experiment Station. These lines were derived from 32 commercial bivoltine F1 hybrids acquired in the late 1980's and early 1990's. Results of selective breeding and field-testing of hybrids indicated that the characters essentially exhibited ecophenotypic variation, i.e. highly influenced by environmental factors. Based on consistent performance, LF2, LF3 and LF4 were selected to be the parental silkworm lines for hybridization work in preparation for releasing such hybrids for commercial silk production.
