Conception rate after fixed time insemination in Kundhi buffalo treated with prostaglandin F2 Alpha (PGF2a) analogue
2006
Khan, Q.
This study was designed to determine conception rate in Kundhi buffaloes treated with prostaglandin F2 alpha (PGF2a) after timed insemination and simultaneous treatment with or without gonadotrophin releasing hormone (GnRH). A total of 40 anestrus Kundhi buffaloes were randomly selected in field conditions. They were divided into 4 equal groups each group comprising ten animals (n=10). A separate treatment protocol was followed for each group. In group A, animals were injected intramuscularly with 2mL, dalmazine, a synthetic analogue of prostaglandin PGF2a (2mL Dalmazine = 0.150 mg cloprostenol), on day 1 and the same treatment of prostaglandin F2a analogue was given on day 11 followed by fixed time artificial insemination (72 h) after the 2nd dose of prostaglandin injection. In group B, animals were given the same treatment as group A, treatment protocol, in addition gonadotrophin releasing hormone (GnRH) i.e. 2mL of Dalmarelin (50 meg of Lecirilin), a synthetic analogue of GnRH was injected at the time of fixed time AI. In group C, animals were given the same protocol as in group A, but in this group i.e. 2mL of Dalmazine (PGF2a) 2mL of Dalmarelin (GnRH) were injected simultaneously on day 11. In group D, animals were kept as control. The Ovusynch/TAI protocol was followed as in treated groups of A.B and C but normal saline solution was injected on day 1 and day 11. The conception rate in group A, B, C and D was 20.2%, 30.3%, 30.3% and 10.1% respectively. The mean conception rate in treated group was higher (26.6%) than control (10.1%). It was observed that high temperature, body score condition, nutritional status of the animal, hormonal therapy, parity and postpartum abnormalities have direct effect on conception rate in Kundhi buffaloes in field conditions. It was concluded from the present study that 16.6% increase was achieved through hormonal therapy following fixed time Al of Kundhi Buffalo in field conditions.
