This syllabus for interpersonal communication on egg was conceptualized by Institute of Human Nutrition and Food, College of Human Ecology, University of the Philippines Los Banos (IHNF, CHE, UPLB) as commissioned by the National Nutrition Council through the assistance of the Department of Agriculture, under the Ginintuang Masaganang Ani-Livestock Program. The syllabus is an integral component of the Nutrition Information Campaign on Livestock, which aims to encourage families to raise poultry as source of food and additional income for the household, and increase awareness on the nutritive value of poultry meat and eggs, and eventually increase consumption. This syllabus aims to contribute to the increased consumption of eggs by improving the levels of knowledge, attitudes, and practices of mothers and caregivers who are responsible for planning and preparing family meals. Thus, the syllabus will serve as a guide for front line workers, especially barangay [village] nutrition scholars, in conducting nutrition education classes for mothers and caregivers. This syllabus has six modules, each of which can be conducted independently from each other but the six modules are complementary. Each module has several activities and techniques on how to conduct the session. The activities were developed to draw active participation from the participants to facilitate learning in an enjoyable environment. The components in each module include 1) title: which states the main topic of the module, 2) learning objectives: describes what participants will be able to do at the end of the module along enhanced knowledge, skills and attitudes, 3) time frame: states the approximate duration of the whole session, 4) procedures: covers a set of techniques to be used and activities to be done to attain the objectives of the module, 5) topic content: this contains the important information to be highlighted per topic and activity, and 6) pre- and post- tests: included in several modules to evaluate if participants improved their knowledge or skills. A general post-test is also included to assess the over-all learning of the participants. The syllabus was pre-tested among 15 Barangay Nutrition Scholars in Bay, Laguna [Philippines]. The pre-testing was done to assess the comprehension of BNS of the syllabus through reading of the whole syllabus and group discussions, and their ability to carry out the activities in the modules through the actual conduct of the activities in each module. In the pre-testing, it was noted that the syllabus is understandable, relevant, catchy and memorable, attractive, credible and acceptable to them. Feedbacks, suggestions and comments on the syllabus were also noted throughout the activity. The results of the pre-testing were analyzed and appropriate changes were made in the final version of the syllabus.
