A field experiment was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of 'Y' microbial fertilizer (NutriSmart), a biologically active product containing yeast strains, on corn. The experiment was done in Lipa soil series following the test protocol of the Fertilizer and Pesticides Authority (FPA). The treatment effects were evident as early as 59 days after planting of hybrid corn (IPB 911). Corn treated with chemical fertilizer in the absence or presence of NutriSmart (400 kg/ha) exhibited comparable vegetative growth. The control plants were as stunted and yellowish as the plants treated with NutriSmart alone. Corn applied with chemical fertilizer whether alone or combined with 400 kg NutriSmart per hectare showed comparable values in terms of weight on ears, ear length, weight of 1,000 seeds, and biomass and grain yields. These treatments significantly increased the above parameters over the control. NutriSmart when applied alone did not significantly improved corn yield and the rest of the parameters over the control.
