Duration of standing estrus and iptimal time for afrtificial insemination (AI) in sows with different weaning-to estrus interval (WEI), according to achieved farrowing rate, was investigated. Standing estrus duration was 60h, 37h and 23h in the sows with less than or equal to 4 days, 5-6 days or greater than or equal to 7 days WEI, resp. Every single WEI-group of sows was double AI 0h and 12h, 12h and 24h or 24h and 36h after standing estrus detection. According to estimated maximal farrowing rate, we are concluded that optimal AI time is 24 h and 36h, 12h and 24h or 0h and 12h, for sows with WEI less than or equal to 4 days, 5-6 days or greater than or equal to 7 days, resp. These results suggest that short WEI sows should be AI later after standing estrus detection than long WEI sows.
