In an effort to secure the production of foodstuffs safe for consumers, modern methods of protection of stored products from insect pests have included various alternative measures and methods other than application of residual insecticides and fumigants. Low and high temperature treatments stand out considering their practical potentials as preventive and/or direct (physical) methods of control of insects in stored products. This article highlights some positive research results of the effects of different temperatures on insect in stored products and points out possibilities for their application in practice. Also, the significance of interaction of low and high temperatures with chemical control methods is discussed, especially as a means of solving the problem of insect populations resistant to insecticides.
