The aim of the research was to determine the qualitative and quantitative composition of beetles and their succession in different varieties of wheat and soil types. In the experimental field of the Institute of Vegetable and Farming at Rimski Sancevi (Serbia), in three different varieties of wheat (NS Rana 5, Renesansa, and Pesma) and the two types of soil the Barber vessels method was applied. In the first year of the research (2006) the vessels were placed on 28 March, the collection of insects was done every ten days to 5 July, while in the second year of the research (2007) the vessels were placed on 2 April and the collecting was done to the 11 June, every ten days. The results of the study show that the total number of insects collected in the first year of study was 12.645 specimens andin the second year 3409 which is in the positive correlation to the meteorological conditions for this group of insects. During the two-year research the largest number of specimens was recorded in the varieties of wheat NS Rana 5 whereas there were no significant differences in number with the other two cultivars. Among the collected beetles the most numerous were the species from epigenous-biontic families Carabidae, Silphidae, Staphilinidae, Curculionidae, Scarabaeidae and Chrysomelidae.
