Breeding for resistance to Globodera rostochiensis in Western Siberia: parantal forms and pairs combinating using personal computer

Potato cyst nematode (Globodera rostochiensis Woll.) is spreading in Western Siberia in course of last decades. Breeding potato varieties which are resistant to the pest and adapted to climatic and soil conditions of the region, is becoming important task.Proceeding from it, regional breeding program was elaborated and is realizing. In 2005-2007 potato breeders working in four ecological zones of Western Siberia (forest-steppe of Irtysh and Ob rivers basins and of Kuznetsk hollow, taiga of Ob river basin), 98 PCN-resistant varieties were studied. The best varieties are selected as potential parental forms. Of special interest are the varieties, which were selected in different locations simultaneously: Granat, Delfin, Zhukovski ranni, Pushkinets, Rozhdestvenski, Agata, Agria, Fregata, Nikita, Rosara, Sante, Van Gogh and others. Each of the varieties mentioned possess a number of valuable agronomic traits and adaptiveness to regional environment. Using the results of PCN-resistant varieties study and experimental model of computerized program, perspective combinations of early and second early varieties for each zone were chosen
