Crop wate requirements of cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) under cooled plastic tunnels

The experiments were conducted under cooled plastic tunnel condition of the Date Palm Technology Company at Shamabt Research Station to determine the crop water requirements for cucumber grown, needed for high yield and good fruit quality. Seven treatments were applied (0.5, 0.75, 1.0, 1.25, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5 L of water) in the first season and a treatment of 3L of water per plant was included in the second season. Irrigation water was added every two or three days to the experimental plots according to treatments. Randomized complete block design was used with four replications. The Data collected included, plant height, number of leaves, number, weight, length and diameter of marketable and non marketable fruits, also the total soluble solids of the fruits, the fresh and dry weights of the stems and leaves and root were determined. The results indicated significant differences between treatments throughout the different stages of plant growth. The findings indicated that cucumber plants were very responsive to the application of irrigation water during both the growing and flowering periods of plant growth. The highest fruit yields (16.9 and 18.3 kg/square m ) were obtained with the application of higher quantities of irrigation water (2.5L and 3L)
