The efficacy of colicin E2 and vitamin E + Se (E+Se) was studied to prevent early embryo mortality (EM) in cows at one of farms in the Kirov region in 2004-2007. The preventive efficacy of antioxidants administered in critical embryogenesis periods – from days 3 to 11 and from days 20 to 22 was estimated by the number of pregnant cows after the first insemination, service period and conception rate. According to the experimental conditions, colicin 2 was administered to cows of group 1 at the dose of 20 ml, group 2 – E-Se at the dose of 15 ml, group 3 was control. Colicin 2 and E-Se administered at two study periods showed positive results, but the efficacy of colicin 2 was higher at days from 3 to 11. Compared to the control group the number of pregnant cows in group 1 was greater by 41.6%, in group 2 – by 17.8%, service period by 20.5 days and 17.1 days, and the insemination index was lower by 0.5 (25%) and 0.2 (10%), respectively. Colicin 2 and E-Se administered at days from 20 to 22 after artificial insemination showed the following results: pregnant cows in group 1 more by 13.9% and in group 2 – by 8.6% that in the control, service period when colicin 2 was administer was shorter by 4.4 days but exceeds the control by 13.1 days when E+Se was injected; conception rate decreased by 0.3 (15%) and 0.2 (10%), respectively. It is concluded that a single administration of colicin 2 at the dose 20 ml at days 3-22 after the first insemination promotes prevention of early EM and raises animal reproductivity: pregnancy by 17.1%, service period decreases by 9.5 days and conception rates increases by 11.8%.
