Irrigation operation using GPS is getting into foreground of worldwide interest. This system enables to apply water of the specific amount, on the specific place and at specified time. Specification of soil moisture with required accuracy is important as it influences the amount and the term of irrigation. This paper introduces results of soil moisture detection at a potato field. The soil moisture was obtained using two methods. First method included analyzing the soil moisture content using gravimetric method, soil moisture content was in the range of 17.67% to 27.39%. By using the second method, which is based on the use of the Wet sensor, the moisture content ranged between 8.21% and 25.75%. Results obtained by gravimetrical method showed, that the soil moisture of 21.56-23.50% by volume was present at the area of 11.54 ha (41.21%) of the field. Similar soil moisture (21.23-22.74% by volume) was identified at the area of 12.75 ha, what represents 45.54% of the field. By means of interpolation of obtained values (through displaying the map) it can be concluded that used measuring equipment (WET sensor with logger HH2) is suitable for immediate determination of the soil moisture.
